Domhnall Gleeson lands Star Wars role

He is already landed lead roles in rom-com About Time and Lenny the quirky Frank, and now Domhnall Gleeson is set to become a household name.

The son of actor Brendan Gleeson has been cast in the highly anticipated Star Wars sequel. JJ Abrams will be directing the seventh episode, and filming will begin next month.

There has been endless speculation about who would be cast in the movie, with Transformers star Jack Reynor even thrown in the mix, but it is Domhnall who landed a coveted role in the famous franchise.

Abrams announced the cast today, which also included little known actors such as Daisy Ridley, Max Von Sydow, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega and Andy Serkins, but also Adam Driver, who is known for his role in HBO hit series Girls.

And of course Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, all the original stars of the George Lucas franchise, will be returning.

“We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII,” Abrams said.

“It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again.

“We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

Domnhall, 30, has featured in other Hollywood hits including Anna Karenina, True Grit, and Harry Potter.
