The cast for The Lion King has been announced – and it includes a global superstar

The live-action film is set for release in 2019

Disney Live Action have announced the all-star cast for The Lion King – and it includes Queen Bey.

The film, based on the 1994 classic animated film, will be directed by Jon Favreau – and now it’s been revealed that Beyoncé, Seth Rogen, Donald Glover, and many more have signed on for the project.

American actor, singer and rapper Donald Glover, otherwise known as Childish Gambino, will play the future king Simba, while singing sensation Beyoncé will play Simba’s friend-turned-love interest Nala.

James Earl Jones will reprise his role of Simba’s loving father, Mufasa, and Chiwetel Ejiofor will play Simba’s villainous uncle Scar.

Alfre Woodard will play Simba’s mother, Sarabi – and Florence Kasumba, Eric André and Keegan-Michael Key will appear as the trouble-making hyenas.

Of course, the film wouldn’t be complete without Timon and Pumba – and now it’s been confirmed that Seth Rogen will take on the role of warthog Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner will play meerkat Timon.

As well as that, John Kani will play wise baboon Rafiki, and John Oliver will play hornbill Zazu.

The original film was the highest grossing animated film for 16 years until it was surpassed by Toy Story 3 in 2010.

The live-action version of The Lion King is set for release July 19, 2019.
