Austin Butler has been cast as Patrick Bateman in director Luca Guadagnino’s new take on Bret Easton Ellis’s American Psycho.
As per Variety, the 33-year-old is taking on the role previously played by Christian Bale in Mary Harron’s acclaimed adaptation.
The upcoming film has been described as a new interpretation of the American Psycho story, and won’t be a remake of the cult-classic film released in 2000.
Guadagnino previous credits include Call Me by Your Name, Bones and All, and Challengers.
The story of American Psycho follows narcissistic investment banker Patrick Bateman, who is also a serial killer of women.
Austin is best known for his Oscar-nominated portrayal of Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 biopic.
He has since starred in Dune: Part Two and The Bikeriders.
