Ruby seemed visibly touched by her new role and struggled to keep her composure during the interfiew.

Speaking about the role she confessed, “I am so thrilled. I feel like the reason I kept getting so emotional is because when I was growing up watching TV, I never saw someone I could identify with, let alone a superhero.”

The ‘Orange is the new Black’ actress shared the news of her casting on Instagram.

She wrote in her caption “The Bat is out of the bag and I am beyond thrilled and honored. I’m also an emotional wreck.. because this is a childhood dream.”

“This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different.”

“Thank you everyone. Thank you god.”
