WATCH: Bryan Cranston leaves his perfect life behind in powerful Wakefield trailer

The newly released trailer for Wakefield isn’t one you’ll be forgetting any time soon.

Bryan Cranston and Jennifer Garner star in the thought-provoking drama, which debuted at the Telluride and Toronto film festivals last year.

The movie follows a man named Howard Wakefield (Cranston), who lives a life that looks perfect on the outside, until he decides to walk away from it all.

After apparently suffering a nervous breakdown, he hides in his attic and watches his family’s world turn upside down as his wife Diana (Garner) and children frantically search for him.

Things get increasingly out of hand as police conduct a search for Howard, believing him to be a missing person, and Diana tries to move on with her life as much as she can while he surveys her from his hiding place.

One spooky scene shows Howard scaring his children away when they try to explore the attic, and he grows more dishevelled and mentally unhinged as the months slip by.

“Suburban life. So much is the same week after week,” Cranston’s character says at the start of the clip. “Who hasn’t had the impulse to put their life on hold for a moment? Just vanish completely?”

The poignant trailer ends with him saying, “I never left my family. I left myself. Unshackled, I’ll become the Howard Wakefield I was meant to be.”

Wakefield will be released on May 19th in cinemas and on VOD on May 26th. Watch the trailer below:
