Valentina Sampaio is reportedly Victoria’s Secret’s first transgender model

Victoria’s Secret has reportedly added a transgender model to one of their campaigns.

Brazilian supermodel Valentina Sampaio took to Instagram to share a behind the scenes photograph, captioning it with “VS Pink.”

“Backstage click,” she wrote, alongside the hashtag “diversity.”

Actress Laverne Cox took to the comments section to say: “Wow finally!”

Victoria’s Secret angel Lais Ribeiro also commented a series of applause emojis. Lily Aldridge also complemented the model, writing “stunning.”

The reports come less than a year after VS faced controversy over comments from a chief marketing officer who said that the lingerie brand would potentially not be using transgender or plus sized models in future annual shows.

However, earlier this year, L Brands announced that it is “rethinking” the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

According to CNBC, the company hopes to change and evolve, and create a new kind of event.

Karlie Kloss recently opened up about her thoughts on the brand, saying:

“The reason I decided to stop working with Victoria’s Secret was I didn’t feel it was an image that was truly reflective of who I am and the kind of message I want to send to young women around the world about what it means to be beautiful,” she told British Vogue.

“I think that was a pivotal moment in me stepping into my power as a feminist, being able to make my own choices and my own narrative, whether through the companies I choose to work with, or through the image I put out to the world.”

Victoria’s Secret have been contacted for comment by Goss.ie.
