The Weeknd reaches settlement in Call Out My Name copyright lawsuit

The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, has reached a settlement in his the lawsuit over his track Call Out My Name.

Suniel Fox and Henry Strange, who perform together as Epikker, brought the lawsuit against the Canadian singer over the 2018 hit.

According to The Guardian, the musicians claimed that his “lead guitar and vocal hooks” were similar to their song Vibeking.

The duo are said to have had proof that The Weeknd knew the song Vibeking, as they had sent it to his collaborator Eric White.

Eric allegedly told the musicians that the singer thought the song was “fire” and that he had “listened and liked” Vibeking.

A section of the email reportedly read: “Just don’t wanna say ‘hey, Strange wrote this’ when he doesn’t know u.”

Epikker claim that they weren’t asked for permission to use parts of the song, nor were they given credit on Call Out My Name.

Attorneys for the two musicians requested that the case be dismissed, citing that they had reached a settlement with The Weeknd and they were “still in the process of formalizing, executing, and consummating” the deal.
