Snapchat have been forced to remove a controversial advert, which features Rihanna and Chris Brown.

The advert, which was for a game, asked users if they would “rather slap Rihanna or punch Chris Brown”.

The ad was quickly flagged for ‘making light of domestic violence’, as it appeared to reference Chris’ conviction for assaulting ex-girlfriend Rihanna in his car back in 2009.

In a statement to Newsbeat, Snap have said that the ad was approved “in error”. “”The advert was reviewed and approved in error, as it violates our advertising guidelines. We immediately removed the ad last weekend, once we became aware.”

“We are sorry that this happened,” they added.

The news comes as the company are dealing with a major drop in value, after Kylie Jenner dissed the app on Twitter.

Snapchat’s new update, which has caused plenty of controversy, features a lot more ads than previous versions.
