A Slovenian magazine has been forced to apologise to US first lady Melania Trump, for suggesting that she had once worked as an escort.

In her 20s, Melania pursued an international modelling career in her native Slovenia, before she met Donald Trump in New York back in 1998.

The Suzy women magazine said that it published an article in August 2016, in which it said that Melania previously worked for a fashion agency that also offered an “elite escort” service.

According to the Associated Press, it said that the article “was understood as if Melania Trump conducted the escort job.”

“We have no proof for that. So we apologise. We had no intention to hurt and offend Mrs Trump,” they added.

Melania had filed a libel lawsuit against the magazine, but her Slovenian lawyer, Natasa Pirc Musar, confirmed on Friday that an “out-of-court settlement” was reached, but she disclosed no details.
