Serena Williams has revealed why she was not in attendance at the christening of Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.
At a press conference the tennis pro, who counts Meghan Markle as one of her best friends, told the assembled press that she would be unable to attend due to work commitments.
“Has Meghan asked you to be godmother on Saturday, and are you going?” she was asked.
“No, I’m working on Saturday, but yeah, she understands work,” Williams replied.
While Serena was unable to make it to the ceremony, Meghan made a surprise appearance at Wimbledon, where she watched on as Serena played.
“Yes, I knew she was there,” Williams told reporters.
“It’s always exciting to know that she’s come out to watch and support the tennis. I was happy.”
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry celebrated this weekend, as they baptised their son Archie in a private christening ceremony.
The couple released a number of photos from the occasion on their official Instagram page.
