Selena Gomez has spoken out about the dangers of social media, which she thinks has been “terrible” for her generation.

The singer, who has over 150 million followers on Instagram, made the comments during a press conference for her new film The Dead Don’t Die at the Cannes Film Festival.

“I think our world is going through a lot, obviously. But for my generation, specifically, social media has been terrible,” she said.

“I understand that it’s amazing to use your platform but it does scare me when you see how exposed these young girls and young boys are.”

“And they’re not really aware of the news or anything going on. It’s… I don’t wanna say selfish because it feels rude… but I think it’s dangerous for sure. I don’t think people are getting the right information sometimes.”

When asked what more she could do to improve the social media environment, given her massive following, Selena said it’s “impossible to make it safe at this point” before adding, “there’s no blocking anything, they’re exposed to it immediately.”
