Sarah Drew says it’s “hopeful” for Jackson and April as Grey’s Anatomy stars talk relationships

There was one topic on everyone’s minds when the Grey’s Anatomy stars graced PaleyFest in Los Angeles on Sunday: relationships.

LAGoss.com attended the screening and Q&A for the smash hit show, where fans were thrilled when Sarah Drew discussed the potential for future romance between her character April and Jackson (Jesse Williams).

“It’s hopeful, and it could lead to romance. Who knows?” she said in response to the characters’ hook-up during last week’s episode of the show.

“The main take-away from their experience in Montana is that these two people, there’s so much love and respect there, and whether it moves toward romance or stays platonic, we know these two are going to be OK and they will always be one another’s ‘person’.”

In real life, Jesse said their “relationship is much more stable”, adding, “We actually really get along and like each other and don’t curse each other out. We don’t fight, and it’s really helpful.”

Meanwhile Justin Chambers admitted a romance between Alex and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) is possible.

“Anything is possible, especially on Grey’s Anatomy. He might even be with Catherine!” he said to laughs, before noting that he wants to see Alex’s relationship with Jo (Camilla Luddington) through.

And Jessica Capshaw, who plays Arizona Robbins, discussed her character’s new romance with Eliza Minnick (Marika Dominczyk).

Fans at PaleyFest were not thrilled by the pairing, and so were delighted when Jessica referred to Sara Ramirez’s character Callie and said her favourite relationship name is Calzona.

When asked if Eliza could be The One, the audience shouted out “no”, and Jessica said, “Is anyone but Callie The One?”

However she explained that Sara’s departure from the show with Callie and Arizona going their separate ways has given her the opportunity to “create new relationships”.

“At the end of last season, there was a really nice point where you could happily permit both to be happy without each other,” she said. “It created a nice springboard for this season.”

Guests at PaleyFest got to watch next Thursdays episode of the show, which marks Ellen’s directorial debut.

The star said Debbie Allen encouraged her to try her hand at directing, revealing, “This force of nature wouldn’t take no for an answer”.
