Riverdale star Cole Sprouse opens up about his battle with depression

The actor helped combat his depression by taking up photography

Cole Sprouse has revealed that he took up photography in a bid to combat his depression.

The former Disney star, who currently stars as Jughead Jones in the CW’s Riverdale, is also an extremely talented photographer – and has admitted that his hobby took him out of a “dark place”.

YouTuber Duan Mackenzie spoke to Cole about his love of photography, and he confessed that he “was sad and in a dark place and turned to a hobby to sort of take me out of that.”

“And I found photography, I’ve been doing photography for a while, but I had really used it as an outlet to create, and feel better, and it took off.”

Cole admitted that he felt like the world was watching him, and how being able to go and shoot in secluded areas allowed him to get away from that.

Since he delved into the world of photography, the actor has photographed Sam Smith for the cover of L’uomo Vogue, he shot an editorial spread of Kendall Jenner for the Sunday Times, and he shot Sophie Turner for in W Magazine.

Cole first revealed how photography helped him deal with his depression in an Instagram post back in January 2016.

“It was depression that drove me to do it. That’s the real truth. It was depression that led me to the camera. It heals you know, a hobby. There’s no Band-Aid like a hobby,” he wrote.

“I’ve been destructive, I know that now. I can see that I’m in a desert, and I’ve been thinking about that oasis when I should’ve been trying to get out.”
