Peter Jackson reveals ‘bully’ Harvey Weinstein blacklisted Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino

Both actresses have accused Harvey of sexual misconduct

Peter Jackson has revealed that Harvey Weinstein told him not to work with actresses Mira Sorvino and Ashley Judd.

The famed Lord of the Rings director was in early negotiations with Harvey Weinstein’s company, Miramax, to produce the LOTR films, when Harvey told him that Mira and Ashley were both “nightmares to work with and we should avoid them at all costs”.

Speaking to New Zealand website Stuff, Peter said, “I recall Miramax telling us they [Sorvino and Judd] were a nightmare to work with and we should avoid them at all costs. This was probably in 1998.”

“At the time, we had no reason to question what these guys were telling us – but in hindsight, I realise that this was very likely the Miramax smear campaign in full swing.”

“I now suspect we were fed false information about both of these talented women – and as a direct result their names were removed from our casting list,” he said.

Both Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino have accused Harvey of sexual misconduct, and Ashley was one of the first high-profile actresses to reveal Harvey’s monstrous behaviour in a New York Times’ exposé.

Peter said he had “no direct experience or knowledge of the sexual allegations” against Harvey, but had made a decision to never work with him again.

The director also accused Harvey and his brother, Bob, of behaving like “second-rate Mafia bullies”.

After Peter’s comments went public, Mira took to Twitter to thank him for his honesty.

“Just seeing this after I awoke, I burst out crying. There it is, confirmation that Harvey Weinstein derailed my career, something I suspected but was unsure,” she wrote.

“Thank you Peter Jackson for being honest. I’m just heartsick.”

Ashley also responded to Peter’s comments, writing on Twitter, “I remember this well.”

Harvey Weinstein has vehemently denied all allegations of non-consensual sex.
