An official report has revealed new details about Jeremy Renner’s horror snow plow accident.
The actor, who is best known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was critically injured after he was run over by a seven-tonne snow plow on Sunday, January 1.
The 51-year-old suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopaedic injuries, and underwent surgery on January 2 after being airlifted to hospital.
According to a Washoe County Sheriff’s office incident report, seen by CNN, Jeremy was trying to stop the snow plow from sliding and hitting his nephew at the time of the incident.
“The Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake,” the report reads.
“Once he was off the Pistenbully, he realized it was heading directly toward [his nephew]. He feared the Pistenbully was going to hit [his nephew], so he decided to attempt to stop or divert the Pistenbully.”
The parking brake on the vehicle had not been engaged, which would have stopped it from sliding sideways.
The report notes that the brake indicator light inside the vehicle wasn’t working and that “mechanical issues may have been a factor in this incident”.
“Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed based on our mechanical inspection that the parking brake would keep the Pistenbully from moving forward,” the report reads. “When Renner attempted to stop or divert the Pistenbully to avoid injury to [his nephew], he was pulled under the vehicle by the track and run over.”
“The Pistenbully rolled over him and continued down the road. He laid on the ground and focused on his breathing while [his nephew and others] rendered aid to him until medical personnel arrived on scene.”
Jeremy was “completely crushed under a large snowcat” and had “extreme [difficulty] breathing,” with “the right side of his chest… collapsed – upper torso is crushed,” a script from a 911 call, obtained by CNN, read.

Jeremy’s nephew had been able to aid his uncle until help arrived on the scene, according to the official report.
The Hawkeye actor was airlifted to hospital, where he stayed for over two weeks, and was treated in the intensive care unit, undergoing at least two surgeries.
The 51-year-old broke more than 30 bones in the horror accident.
