Singer Katy Perry has been revealed as the new judge on American Idol.
The quirky pop star will join the ABC show when it returns to our screens next year.
There was much speculation about who the new judge would be, but Katy’s name was finally confirmed on Tuesday.
Katy has now spoke out about the news saying, “I am honoured and thrilled to be the first judge bringing back the American Idol tradition of making dreams come true for incredible talents with authentic personalities and real stories.”
“I’m always listening to new music, and love discovering diamonds in the rough – from mentoring young artists on my label, or highlighting new artists on my tours, I want to bring it back to the music.”
Attention is now turning to the rest of the judging line-up.
Chris Daughtry is rumoured to have signed up to the show too. Chris finished 4th in American Idol back in Season 5.
There is also much speculation over whether Ryan Seacrest will return to host the show.
The hugely popular talent show ended in 2015 after 15 seasons. But will return to our TV screens in 2018.
