Miley Cyrus gets emotional as she pays tribute to her late hairstylist at NYFW

Celebrity hairstylist Oribe Canales passed away last December

Miley Cyrus got emotional as she paid tribute to her late friend and hairstylist Oribe Canales during New York Fashion Week.

Some of the biggest names in fashion turned out to honour the celebrity hairstylist at a special event held at the Lincoln Center – almost nine months after Oribe died suddenly at the age of 62.

Miley was invited to perform at the event, singing a stunning rendition of ‘You Are My Sunshine’.

The singer also got choked up as she delivered a touching speech, in which she told a story about how Oribe once came to visit her and her sick grandmother, Mammie, who had just started to lose her hair.

To try and lift her Mammie’s spirits, Oribe made her a gorgeous wig, and gave it to her as a gift.

At the time of his passing, Miley shared her devastation in a series of heartbreaking tweets.

Sharing a number of photos with Oribe, she wrote: “What they say is true ….. my heart is in a thousand tiny little pieces today….. can’t catch my breath ….. oh how I will miss my sweet friend.”

“Knowing I can’t call you right now to laugh , to talk hair , to talk life ,to talk shit, makes me shake in disbelief.”

“Wish I could hug you , wish I could smell the familiar scent of when you walked in to a room. I’d do anything to tell you one more time how beautiful you make me feel …. I love you Oribe. & I Always will,” she added.

During the honorary event, huge stars like Naomi Campbell, Marc Jacobs, and Jennifer Lopez also paid tribute to Oribe in special video messages.
