Michael Schumacher’s wife shares a rare statement about his condition

Michael Schumacher’s wife has released a rare statement about her husband’s condition ahead of his 50th birthday.

The former Formula One race driver was in a devastating ski accident back in 2013, which left him in a coma for six months.

The former driver’s wife, Corinna, shared a message to her husband’s fans to explain that the family are continuing to help him recover: “You can be sure that he is in good hands and we are doing everything possible to help him.”

She also urged his fans to respect their privacy: “Please understand if we follow Michael’s wishes and leave as sensitive a topic as health, as ever, in privacy.”

The rare statement was released after fans sent Michael birthday wishes ahead of his birthday.

Corinna thanked fans and friends for their support: “At the same time, we thank you very much for your friendship and wish you a happy and healthy year in 2019.”

The couple married in 1995 and have two children together, Gina-Maria and Mick.

Their son is following in his father’s footsteps and won the Formula Three championship last year.
