Meghan Markle’s former Suits co-star ‘wishes her the best’ after slamming Oprah interview

Wendell Pierce has wished his former Suits co-star Meghan Markle “the best”, after slamming her Oprah Winfrey interview.

Meghan and her husband Prince Harry sat down with the chat show legend from an explosive interview which first aired in the US on Sunday night.

Wendell, who played Robert Zane in Suits, shared his thoughts on the bombshell interview, admitting he thought it was “insignificant” in comparison to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking on radio station LBC, the actor said: “Today 3,000 people are going to die in America from COVID. A couple of hundred people are going to die, even this hour, in the UK.”

“It was quite insensitive and offensive that we are all complicit in this sort of palace… gossip in the midst of so much death. I think it is insignificant.”

The 57-year-old clarified he was criticising “everyone” involved in the interview, and said that the focus should instead be on the “throes of death that we’re in”.

The Wire star later took to Twitter to clarify he meant no criticism towards Meghan, writing: “I just discovered my words are being used as an attack.”

“Well done British Press. Clarity: The British monarchy is archaic in my American eyes. If slavery, colonialism and apartheid didn’t educate you that they are racist, you failed history.”

“I was fortunate to tell Meghan personally I wish her all the best. Predicting this hellacious maelstrom I also told her she would always have a friend in me.”

“Because I had no interest in the interview doesn’t change that… As I told Meghan, I support her and wish her all the best,” he added.
