Matt Damon has revealed he lost over $270million by turning down a role in Avatar.

The film’s director, James Cameron, was desperate for Matt to play Jake Sully in the film, and offered him 10% of the film’s takings.

The actor declined James’ offer, and Avatar went on to become the highest-grossing movie of all time.

The sci-fi film earned $2.8billion at the global box office, meaning Matt lost out on a cool $270million.

Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, Matt said: “I was offered a little movie called Avatar. I will go down in history.”

“You will never meet an actor who turned down more money than me.”

“With these billionaires blasting off into space I probably would have bought a rocket ship, I don’t know,” he joked.
