Martin Luther King’s daughter responds to infamous Pepsi advert

Martin Luther King’s daughter Bernice King has responded to the infamous Pepsi advert featuring Kendall Jenner.

The advert caused huge controversy because the march featured in it looked like a Black Lives Matter march, and privileged white model Kendall Jenner charmed the police with a can of Pepsi.

Pepsi has since pulled the advert and apologised for putting Kendall “in this position”.

Bernice King took to Twitter to post a photograph of her father being reprimanded by police officers, and captioned it, “If only Daddy would have known about the power of Pepsi”.

In the wake of the blow-back, Pepsi issued a statement to EW, saying, “This is a global ad that reflects people from different walks of life coming together in a spirit of harmony, and we think that’s an important message to convey.”

At press time Daily Beast reporter Marlow Stern reported that the ad had been pulled and that Pepsi issued an apology for its misfire.

A spokesperson for Pepsi could not be reached for comment at press time and the ad was still available on Jenner’s official YouTube site.
