Lily Collins writes open letter ‘forgiving’ father Phil for ‘not being the dad I expected’

Lily Collins’s relationship with her famous father Phil definitely isn’t perfect – and she is letting the whole world know that.

The actress penned an open letter to the musician in her just-released book Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me, in which she told him she forgives him for his “mistakes”.

“I forgive you for not always being there when I needed and for not being the dad I expected,” she wrote, according to an excerpt published by the Daily Mail.

Lily said that she is learning to come to terms with her feelings towards her father, who has been divorced three times and has five children.

“We all make choices and, although I don’t excuse some of yours, at the end of the day we can’t rewrite the past,” the Rules Don’t Apply star, who was five when her parents separated, wrote.

She added that although she can’t agree with everything her father has done, she is learning to accept his “actions” – and her own feelings about them.

Lily, 27, also admitted that her battle with an eating disorder stemmed from her struggle to deal with Phil’s divorce from his third wife Orianne Cevey.

“Not only did I start viewing myself differently physically, but I began limiting my happiness by controlling my eating habits,” she revealed.

“I couldn’t handle the pain and confusion surrounding my dad’s divorce, and I was having a hard time balancing being a teenager with pursuing two different grown-up careers.”

However Lily added: “I forgive the mistakes you made. And although it may seem like it’s too late, it’s not. There’s still so much time to move forward.”
