LCD Soundsystem’s Gavin Russom comes out as transgender

Gavin Russom has come out as transgender.

The LCD Soundsystem keyboardist and synth player revealed she identifies as female in an interview with Grindr.

“This is my fifth decade being alive and in each of those decades, there’s been a time where I’ve tried to say, ‘Hey, I think I’m transgender!’ This was even before that word existed,” she said.

Russom said she “could not imagine” hiding her true identity any longer as the reunited band gear up for the release of their new album and an upcoming tour.

She revealed that the band have been “really supportive” but said coming out has still proven difficult.

“I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, but I have my good days and my bad days. On my bad days, it really sucks, and I wait until I get home to go to the bathroom—which is such a basic thing,” she said.

She added to Pitchfork: “Over the last year and a half, I went from my trans identity being something I was in touch with and worked through in one way or another, to suddenly this shift where it’s on the front burner. Now it’s time to become a whole person.”
