Lady Gaga hits back at claims she ‘stole’ the melody from her hit song Shallow

An unknown songwriter is trying to sue the singer

Lady Gaga has hit back at claims that she “stole” the melody from her hit song, Shallow.

The songstress is being threatened with a multimillion-dollar lawsuit by an unknown songwriter, over her Oscar-winning song that featured on the soundtrack for A Star Is Born.

Songwriter Steve Ronsen has claimed that a three-note progression in ‘Shallow’ was stolen from his 2012 song ‘Almost’, which he released on Spotify.

In response to the legal threat, Gaga’s attorney told PageSix: “Mr. Ronsen and his lawyer are trying to make easy money off the back of a successful artist. It is shameful and wrong.”

“I applaud Lady Gaga for having the courage and integrity to stand up on behalf of successful artists who find themselves on the receiving end of such [claims].”

“Should Mr. Shirian proceed with this case, Lady Gaga will fight it vigorously and will prevail.”

The singer’s legal team also pointed out that the three-note progression in question is quite common, and can be heard in several other songs, including Kansas’ 1978 track ‘Dust In The Wind’.
