Kristen admitted that she had been interested in directing since before she ever became an actress.

“My movie is about some guy who goes through heartbreak and is super sad about it. I was thinking about it for three years,” she told the Hollywood Reporter.

“It feels really first-world white-people problems, and I came here a little bit nervous about it, considering the timing [following the election of controversial U.S. President Donald Trump] because people are going to be like, ‘That doesn’t matter’.

“But I feel like things are going to shift in this really beautiful way.”

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this weekend.
