They’re always considered to be relationship goals, and now Kristen Bell has revealed the secret to her marriage to Dax Shepard.
The happy couple have been together for almost 10 years and married for three, and the actress told People at the premiere of CHiPS on Monday that therapy has helped them get there.
“We have a very healthy marriage and we got there by doing therapy when we needed it, and constantly doing fierce moral inventories,” she said.
“We both take responsibility when we are wrong, and I think it is easy to work with him because I married him, because I enjoy spending time with him and I trust him. That is exactly what I want in someone that I work with.”
Kristen had previously spoken about couples therapy with Dax during a 2015 interview with Good Housekeeping, explaining that it’s “not something to be embarrassed about”.
The actors, who share daughters Lincoln, three, and Delta, two, learned to argue in a healthy way after Dax pointed out that they needed to communicate better in order to make it work.
“I said to Kristen, ‘We should try hard to police ourselves about becoming contemptuous of each other. If I ever see you roll your eyes at me, we need to hit pause and figure out what’s going on,’” he explained.
Kristen added, “I don’t mind advertising a healthy marriage. I’m trying, just like everyone else.”
