Kourtney Kardashian has been slammed for sharing a “ridiculous” conspiracy theory about face masks, amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Over the weekend, the KUWTK star reposted a message that claimed surgical masks could cause life-threatening health risks.
The message read: “Those Blue Masks Mandated at grocery stores & airplanes are made of PTFE, a carcinogen made of synthetic fluoride.”
“According to Cancer.Org it increases the risk of liver, testicle, pancreas, kidney & breast tumors + ulcerative colitis, thyroid disease, preeclampsia and high cholesterol.”
“High exposure can cause influenza-like symptoms and hemorrhaging in the lungs, leading to suffocation.”
Kourtney shared the message on her Instagram Story, alongside a worried and exploding head emoji.
The 41-year-old’s post was widely criticised on social media, as people slammed the reality star for sharing the theory with her 102 million Instagram followers.
The scariest thing to happen on Halloween this year is Kourtney Kardashian posting this utterly ridiculous post about blue masks with no medical evidence or proof, it’s just some random screenshot. Medical professionals worldwide wear them but this screenshot means it’s true… pic.twitter.com/F96Fe9cVUG

Kourtney Kardashian really posted that “blue mask fact” like it was a fact. Did she and others go into depth and research PTFE in masks or did they see the “after effects” and went with it? Let me put the fear god in those who wear mask?

Did Kourtney Kardashian really said “Mask causes cancer” Imagine being this stupid. Imagine misleading so many people into your lack of knowledge.

@kourtneykardash it is highly irresponsible of you to post this kind of content knowing the size of your platform, especially in this era where misinformation spreads like wildfire and there is already a problem with mask-adherence and a huge doubt in actual science

Social media is the way the majority of our generation gets info. @kourtneykardash told her 102 *million* Instagram followers today that masks cause cancer- just so unbelievably dangerous. Doctors/scientists, we have to keep combatting misinformation–no matter how tiring it gets https://t.co/mRCupytHpz

According to The New York Post, the American Cancer Society have since denounced the face mask theory.
Dr. William Cance, chief medical and scientific officer of the ACS, said: “There is no evidence to support the claim that the presence of PTFE in a mask causes cancer.”
“As a surgical oncologist, I, along with thousands of colleagues in the health-care profession, have been wearing masks for years to protect patients from the spread of infections.”
The news comes after the Kardashian-Jenner clan were criticised over the weekend, for throwing a Halloween party for Kendall Jenner’s 25th birthday.
The famous family were slammed for hosting a party amid the coronavirus pandemic, but Kris Jenner has since revealed all their guests were tested for Covid-19 before entering the bash.
During an interview on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, Kris responded to the critics by saying: “At Kendall’s, everyone got tested before they walked in the door and they had to wait, you know, a half an hour until the results were in.”
“And everybody was tested before a few days before Halloween. So we are really responsible and we make sure that everyone in our family and our closest friends are tested religiously.”
“We do what we can. We try to follow the rules and then if people are commenting or they’re being critical, I can’t control that.”
Kris continued: “I am very sensitive to what’s going on. Believe me. We are very lucky to work in an industry where we get tested once or twice a week. I just got tested again.”
“I was tested on Friday because of the network rules while we are filming as you know, so that’s very strict.”
“And then whenever we have a gathering, no matter how big or small, whether it’s five people or 25 people or 20 people.”
