Kim Kardashian is among a host of celebrities calling for stricter gun laws, after a gunman killed at least 17 people at a school in Florida on Valentine’s Day.

Expelled student Nikolas Cruz, 19, went on a rampage at his former school Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School – armed with an assault rifle, which he legally owned.

The tragic event has once again caused people to beg for change, and to end gun violence in the United States.

Taking to Twitter, Kim Kardashian, who has been vocal about gun violence in the past, wrote, “We owe it to our children and our teachers to keep them safe while at school. Prayers won’t do this: action will. Congress, please do your job and protect Americans from senseless gun violence.”

Terrifying images posted on Instagram show the shooter, who is now in police custody, posing with guns and knives. Fellow pupils admitted that they “knew he would shoot up the school”.

Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, and actresses Reese Witherspoon and Julianne Moore have also joined Kim in calling for stricter gun restrictions.

Ellen DeGeneres tweeted, “No words, no actions, no laws are enough until we end this epidemic of school shootings in our country. My heart is with the students and parents of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.”

Reese Witherspoon tweeted, “Heartbroken over the news of another school shooting. This is the 18th in 45 days of 2018. Students & teachers shouldn’t have to fear for their safety.

“We must do more to prevent these senseless acts of gun violence. My heart is w/ the people in Parkland, FL. Enough is enough,” she added.

Julianne Moore tweeted, “The 18th school shooting in the US since January. It is heartbreaking. What will it take to change our nation’s gun laws ???”

Florida Governor Rick Scott, a Republican, has described the act as “pure evil”, but refused to discuss gun controls in a press conference on Wednesday night.
