Kelly Clarkson sued by father-in-law’s company amid divorce from Brandon Blackstock

Kelly Clarkson is being sued by her management company, which is run by her father-in-law Narvel Blackstock.

The 38-year-old shocked fans by filing for divorce from her husband Brandon back in June, citing “irreconcilable differences”.

According to court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday, Starstruck Management Group filed a suit against the singer – alleging that she owes them $1.4 million in unpaid commissions.

According to the publication, the documents claimed: “Over the course of approximately 13 years, Starstruck developed Clarkson into a mega superstar.”

“By way of example only, Starstruck was instrumental in helping Clarkson achieve success in terms of numerous hit albums, multiple GRAMMY wins and nominations, her role on popular television shows like The Voice and her own talk show.

“Despite Starstruck’s hard work and dedication, Clarkson has decided she is going to stop paying Starstruck for what is contractually owed.”

The company alleged a breach of oral contract, and claimed that the singer has paid the firm $1.9 million this year but owes a further $1.4 million.

They also claimed that they are entitled to future earnings made by Kelly for The Voice, her talk show and her deal with Wayfair.

As she opened season two of The Kelly Clarkson Show last week, the mother-of-two opened up about her split from Brandon – labelling 2020 a “dumpster fire” of a year.

She told her virtual audience: “2020 has brought a lot of change also to my personal life. Definitely didn’t see anything coming that came.

“What I’m dealing with is hard because it involves more than just my heart. It involves a lot of little hearts. We have four kids.

“And divorce is never easy. And we’re both from divorced families so we know the best thing here is to protect our children and their little hearts.”

Kelly explained she’s “usually very open” about her personal life, but said she “probably won’t go too far into it because, you know, I’m a mama bear and my kids come first.”

“So I probably won’t speak about it too much, but you definitely will hear it musically probably, that’s how I became a songwriter,” she added.

“Music has always been my outlet to help me get through difficult times and this year, I’ve been listening to a lot of music and I’ve also been writing a lot of music as well.”

Kelly and Brandon were married for seven years, and the couple welcomed two kids together – River, 6, and Remington, 4.

The songstress is also stepmother to Brandon’s two children from a previous relationship, Seth and Savannah.
