Kanye West’s lawsuit allegedly claims his contract prevents him from retiring

Kanye West’s lawsuit has allegedly claimed that his contract prevents him from retiring.

The rapper is attempting to end his contract with EMI, which he signed in 2003.

According to the lawsuit, Kanye’s contract states: “At no time during the Term will you seek to retire as a songwriter, recording artist or producer or take any extended hiatus during which you are not actively pursuing Your musical career in the same basic manner as You have pursued such career to date.”

The 41-year-old filed two lawsuits against EMI in January, in an attempt to release himself from the contract, but the complaints were heavily redacted.

Kanye seeks to “obtain his freedom” and is arguing that it violates California state law to keep someone in a personal contract for over seven years.

The lawsuit also claims the contract with the music company is “lopsided” and the rapper wants to be the owner of any music he created from 2010 onwards, as that was seven years after he initially signed the contract.
