Kanye West has legally changed his name

Kanye West has officially changed his name to Ye.

Back in August, the rapper requested to legally change his name from Kanye Omari West to his nickname “Ye”, citing “personal reasons”.

According to new court documents obtained by TMZ, the name change has been officially approved by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michelle Williams.

Kanye first gave himself the nickname Ye back in 2018, tweeting ahead of his appearance on Saturday Night Live: “The being formally known as Kanye West…I am YE.”

The Chicago native also has an album called Ye, which was released that same year.

He said in an interview with Billboard at the time: “I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible, it means ‘you.’ So, I’m you, I’m us, it’s us.”

“It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye — just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confusion, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are.”

The 44-year-old’s name change comes after his wife of seven years Kim Kardashian filed for divorce in February.

The former couple share four children – North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm – who all take Kanye’s surname West.
