Kanye West files to officially change his name

Kanye West has filed to officially change his name.

According to documents obtained by E! News, the rapper has requested to change his name from Kanye Omari West to his nickname “Ye”.

The 44-year-old stated that he wants to change his name for “personal reasons”.

Kanye first gave himself the nickname Ye back in 2018, tweeting ahead of his appearance on Saturday Night Live: “The being formally known as Kanye West…I am YE.”

The Chicago native also has an album called Ye, which was released that same year.

He said in an interview with Billboard at the time: “I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible, it means ‘you.’ So, I’m you, I’m us, it’s us.”

“It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye — just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confusion, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are.”

Kanye’s tenth studio album Donda was set for release on July 23, but it has not yet been released.

Instead of releasing the album on a streaming platform, the father-of-four has hosted a number of listening parties across the US.

He is set to perform at the Soldier Field stadium in his hometown of Chicago on August 26.
