Jussie Smollett’s friend reportedly insisted that the actor reported his attack to the police – as he didn’t want to get want to get the authorities involved.
The Empire star was attacked in the early hours of Tuesday morning last week and reported the incident to the police, after his friend insisted that he do so.
A source told MailOnline that the 35-year-old originally did not tell the police that the attackers shouted “This is MAGA country” during the offence.
The actor was reportedly on the phone to his manager at the time of the attack, but allegedly refused to give his phone to the police so that they could verify that they were talking to each other when the incident took place.
When Jussie returned to his apartment an “associate” of the star called the police and he, along with another friend, told the police that the actor did not want to report the attack.
Police are currently searching for the two attackers and have asked for the public’s help in identifying the men through CCTV footage.
