Jane Fonda and Gloria Steinem appeared on MSNBC’s All In With Chris Hayes this week, where they spoke about the Harvey Weinstein scandal.
Actress Jane and activist Gloria were on the show as representatives of The Women’s Media Center, a non-profit founded by Steinem and Fonda along with poet Robin Morgan in 2005.
When speaking about the Harvey Weinstein scandal, which has been heavily documented in the press over the past few weeks, Jane said that a part of the reason Harvey’s accusers are getting so much attention is because they’re “famous and white” – with the exception of Lupita Nyong’o.
“It feels like something has shifted. It’s too bad that it’s probably because so many of the women that were assaulted by Harvey Weinstein are famous and white and everybody knows them.”
“This has been going on a long time to black women and other women of color and it doesn’t get out quite the same.”
Since Harvey’s actions were exposed in a New York Times article, over 60 women have accused him of various forms of sexual harassment, including rape and assault.
Since Jane and Gloria’s interview was aired, Jane’s comments have gone viral – and she’s receiving a tonne of praise:

Damn. Jane Fonda bringing the wood! And she’s 100% right. When white women complain, America listens. Black women? Nope. https://t.co/MKQT12jExG

Just walked out my front door, screamed “I love Jane Fonda,” walked back inside and opened a beer.
