Jamie Lynn Spears ‘changes name’ of tell-all memoir following backlash from Britney Spears fans

Jamie Lynn Spears has announced her upcoming tell-all memoir will be called ‘Things I Should Have Said’.

On Monday, the former Nickelodeon star shared a photo of the book cover, ahead of the memoir’s scheduled release in January 2022.

The 30-year-old wrote: “I can’t believe I finally finished writing my book!!! ‘THINGS I SHOULD HAVE SAID’ has been in the works for quite a longggg time now.”

“Back In 2017, after Maddie’s life changing accident, I felt a strong conviction to share my story,” Jamie continued, referring to the ATV accident that almost claimed her then-8-year-old daughter’s life. “But there was a lot of personal work and healing that had to happen before I could share my truth the proper way.”

“I’ve spent my whole life believing that I had to pretend to be perfect, even when I wasn’t, so for the first time I am opening up about my own mental health, because this process challenged me to have to be painfully honest with myself, and face a lot of hard things, that I normally would have just glossed right over, like I was taught to.”

“I owe it to myself, my younger self, and to my daughters to be an example that you should never edit yourself or your truth to please anyone else.”

“I know I still have ALOT of learning to do, but I feel like finishing this book gave me closure on this ’30 year long’ chapter of my life, and hopefully helps anyone else out there who forgot their worth, lost their voice, or is trying to break an unhealthy cycle in their life.”

The actress explained that a portion of the proceeds from the book’s sales will be donated to This Is My Brave, an organization that encourages open conversations and storytelling about mental health struggles to end the stigma surrounding them.

She concluded the post by writing: “Last but certainly not least, I want you all to know, YOU matter, YOUR story matters, YOU are enough, and don’t ever let this world try to convince you otherwise.”

Back in July, Jamie Lynn faced backlash after Worthy Publishing and Barnes and Noble’s said her memoir would be named after on of her sister Britney Spears’ most famous lyrics.

They claimed the book would be titled ‘I Must Confess: Family, Fame, and Figuring It Out’.

‘I Must Confess’ is a line from the chorus of Britney’s 1998 debut single ‘…Baby One More Time’.

After the backlash, publishers Worthy Publishing insisted the information that was released about the book was not correct, including the title.

In a statement, the publisher said: “Worthy Publishing, an imprint of Hachette Book Group, became aware earlier today that premature information about Jamie Lynn Spears’s still-in-development book project has been erroneously released online to book retail sites.”

“We deeply regret that incorrect and incomplete information about her book has appeared in the public space, particularly at this sensitive time for Jamie Lynn and her family,” they added, referring to Britney’s ongoing conservatorship battle.

In an Instagram post shared last week, Britney slammed her family as she opened up about her 13-year conservatorship, which she previously branded “abusive”.

Alongside a snap of an ethereal painting, the popstar wrote: “This picture is everything to me !!! It makes me want to cry … she’s saving her divine feminine sister 🧜🏻‍♀️ !!!!”

“I suggest if you have a friend that’s been in a house that feels really small for four months … no car … no phone … no door for privacy and they have to work around 10 hours a day 7 days a week and give tons of blood weekly with never a day off … I strongly suggest you go pick up your friend and get them the hell outta there !!!!!”

“If you’re like my family who says things like ‘sorry, you’re in a conservatorship’ … probably thinking you’re different so they can f*** with you !!!!”

Praising her new lawyer, Britney concluded the post by writing: “Thankfully I found an amazing attorney Mathew Rosengart who has helped change my life 🌹!!!!”

Britney’s father Jamie was suspended from her conservatorship last month, 13 years after it was established.

Britney officially filed a petition to replace her father Jamie as the conservator of her estate in July.

According to court documents obtained by E! News, Britney’s estate is worth $57.4 million – which includes $2.7 million in cash assets, and $54.7 million in non-cash assets.

The Toxic singer was placed under a conservatorship after she suffered an alleged breakdown in 2008.

A conservatorship is granted to those who are incapable of making decisions, such as people with mental disabilities.

The arrangement put her estate, financial assets, and some personal assets under the control of her father Jamie, and lawyer Andrew Wallet – who has since resigned from the role.

The Grammy winner’s conservatorship has been under review since 2019 after she accused her father of forcing her to enter a mental health facility.
