Inside this year’s six-figure Oscars gift bag

Nominees like Lady Gaga and Rami Malek will be gifted plenty of luxury items

The 2019 Academy Awards takes place on Sunday night, and ahead of the prestigious awards ceremony – nominees are gifted a very expensive swag bag.

Oscar gift bags, which are distributed by companies that have “no relationship” with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, are sent to nominees every year before the Academy Awards, due to the volume of items in them.

The Academy used to produce gift bags themselves, but reportedly stopped in 2006 due to tax reasons.

Once the Academy stopped giving out their own goodies, private companies got involved, and started charging brands thousands to have their product put in a gift bag “with the hope that a celebrity will be photographed using or wearing” it.

Every year, a company called Distinctive Assets sends lucrative “Everyone Wins” gift bags to nominees – and their swag bag this year is reportedly worth six figures.

From expensive skincare products, to luxury holidays in Greece – these bags are worth a serious amount of money.

The bags will also include plenty of cannabis-infused items, which is apt considering the legalisation of marijuana in California in recent years.
