Halsey slams ‘homophobic viewers’ as she defends her performance on The Voice

The singer was forced to defend her appearance on the show

Halsey has defended her performance on The Voice, and slammed ‘homophobic viewers’ who criticised it.

The singer performed her song ‘Without Me’ while dancing an intimate contemporary dance with Jade Chynoweth during the show’s finale.

The performance received some negative comments online, as viewers claimed it was ‘inappropriate’ and sent ‘a bad message’.

However, the 24-year-old took to Twitter to defend her performance by tweeting: “Very proud of the emotional performance i did with @JadeChynoweth on @NBCTheVoice tonight. And also very proud to have pissed off thw homophobic viewers at home who missed the message. Thanks for watching.”

Halsey continued to express how important the performance was to her, as she tweeted: “Represention matters. Thanks @NBCTheVoice for giving a space for this vision to come to life.”

“And thank you @JadeChynoweth for being an incredible human who used her body like the ultimate instrument for this collaboration.” [sic]

The singer also showed her pride on Instagram, when she thanked her dance partner and addressed the haters by saying, “Thank you @jadebug98 for being the bombest human being ever and bringing this vision to life.”

“Lots of people angry because we performed the story of a wlw couple and their emotional journey. Representation matters. I’m proud I got to put this on so many television screens tonight.”
