Gwyneth Paltrow reveals backlash over ‘conscious uncoupling’ statement was ‘brutal’

Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed that the backlash over her “conscious uncoupling” statement with Chris Martin was “brutal.”

The celebs hit headlines in 2014 when they announced their split after eleven years of marriage, but it was their statement that caught the attention of fans.

The pair said that they were “consciously uncoupling” and received a huge reaction to their comment.

Speaking on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, the mother-of-two said that the backlash felt like a “layer of the world turning on us about saying, essentially, we just want to be nice to each other and stay a family”.

“I was in a lot of pain. It was so difficult. It felt like such a failure to me. It was so hard and I was so worried about my kids. Then there was this whole other layer of the world turning on us.”

“It was brutal. I already felt like I had no skin on,” she continued.

“Sometimes I’ve said things and it’s been too early in the culture, or whatever.”
