Gigi Hadid ‘sued for copyright infringement’ over Instagram photo

Gigi Hadid is reportedly being sued for copyright infringement over an Instagram photo.

The model posted a paparazzi image of herself on Instagram in October and was forced to remove the picture, as she said at the time that she was being “legally pursued” for sharing the photo without permission.

In documents obtained by People, there was a lawsuit filed by photography agency, Xclusive, against the model on Monday for sharing the photo without the photographer’s permission.

According to the lawsuit approximately 1.6 million people liked or commented on the photo before she removed it from Instagram and the company is seeking damages for copyright infringement, along with any profits made from the photo.

The lawsuit also alleges that this isn’t the first time the model has posted images without permission on social media, as it said: “As of the date of this filing, Hadid’s Instagram account includes at least fifty examples of uncredited photographs of Hadid in public, at press events, or on the runway.”

After first hearing about the lawsuit in October, Gigi shared a lengthy post on Instagram calling out members of the paparazzi for constantly taking photos of her and said that it took an “mental/emotional toll” on celebrities.
