Fans criticise Ellen DeGeneres for comparing isolation to ‘being in jail’

The television personality has been hosting her talk show from home

Ellen DeGeneres has been criticised by fans, after she compared isolation to “being in jail”.

The 62-year-old has been hosting her popular talk show from home like many other TV hosts, including James Corden and Jimmy Fallon.

However, some of the jokes that Ellen made in her opening monologue did not sit well with viewers.

She said: “One thing I’ve learned from being in quarantine is… this is like being in jail, is what it is.”

“It’s mostly because I’ve been wearing the same clothes for 10 days and everyone here is gay.”

“I feel bad for the kids at home, all the college students, all the parents. I feel bad for a lot of people,” she added.

Fans did not see the funny side to Ellen’s comments and they were quick to take to Twitter to slam the host.

“ellen degeneres in her mansion talking about quarantine is like jail,” one viewer tweeted

“growing up is realizing ellen degeneres isn’t actually funny she’s just mean,” another commented.

Producers of the Ellen Degeneres Show decided to go on hiatus from mid-March.

However, Ellen announced that she would continue streaming the show from the comfort of her home last week.
