Empire creator Lee Daniels reveals cast have felt ‘pain and anger’ amid Jussie Smollett scandal

The actor pleaded not guilty to filing a police report last week

Interview

Lee Daniels has addressed the Jussie Smollett scandal once again – revealing he and the show’s cast have experienced a lot of “pain and anger”.

Back in January, Jussie claimed that he had been attacked by two men as they shouted racial and homophobic slurs at him.

However, the Chicago Police have since accused the actor of faking the attack in order to boost his profile – an accusation Jussie has strongly denied.

Taking to Instagram before Empire’s most recent episode aired, Lee admitted that the past few weeks have been “a freaking roller coaster.”

“We, me and my cast, have experienced pain, and anger, and sadness and frustration, and we really don’t know how to deal with it.”

The show’s writer and creator also informed fans that the most recent episode was filmed “prior to the incident”.

He insisted: “This is not what the show was made for. This show was made to bring America together. To talk about the atrocities right now on the streets.”

The 59-year-old captioned the post: “I was so in my feelings last week that I forgot to post about @empirefox & @staronfox …. I guess y’all know why… anyway I’m back and I’m finally ok!!!! ????????.”
