Destiny Child’s Michelle Williams ordered to take leave from Broadway show by doctor

Michelle Williams has been forced to ‘quit’ her Broadway musical, after her doctor ordered her to stop performing.

The Destiny’s Child singer is taking a leave of absence from her role as the goddess Erzulie, in the Broadway production of Once On This Island.

The 38-year-old joined the cast just two weeks ago, but the show has since released a statement which said: “Effective immediately, Michelle T. Williams has been advised by her doctors to take a leave of absence from performing.”

The news comes just one week after Michelle revealed, in a since-deleted Instagram post, that she ended her engagement with Chad Johnson.

In October the singer opened up about her mental health struggles, as she spoke to People about her depression: “I thought I was over depression. I thought, ‘I’m good! I’ve got love, I’m working out.'”

“But I was so angry. The rage built up in me. I did not attempt suicide, but I was questioning life.”

The former Destiny’s Child member admitted that she battled with depression during her teenage years and when the band became extremely famous.

She went on to say that it slowly returned in the lead up to her performance at Coachella, alongside Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland, earlier this year.

“The entire year we were rehearsing every day for hours, I was burying it, and before you knew it, I was looking up out of the pit like, ‘Oh my God.’”

Michelle admitted that she knew she had to deal with her mental health this time round: “I’d been there before in that darkness. I was like ‘No, you better go to the hospital.’ By the time I got there, I was stable.”
