Demi Lovato opens up about mental health in first major interview since overdose

Demi Lovato has opened up about her mental health in her first major interview following an overdose last year that saw her admitted to hospital for 12 days.

In July 2018, the pop star was rushed to hospital after she was found unresponsive at her Hollywood Hills home, after a suspected drug overdose.

Speaking to Teen Vogue, Demi says she’s “overcome a lot.”

“What I see in the mirror [is] someone that’s overcome a lot. I’ve been through a lot and I genuinely see a fighter.”

“I don’t see a championship winner, but I see a fighter and someone who is going to continue to fight no matter what is thrown in their way,” she said.

“I think it’s been a very introspective year for me. I’ve learned a lot, been through a lot.”

“For so many years I dealt with an eating disorder.”

“What I wasn’t ever open with myself about was, whenever I was in the gym I was doing it to an unhealthy extreme,” she explained.

“I think that’s what led me down a darker path, I was still engaging in these behaviours. Embracing my body as it is naturally is why I took the month of October off the gym.”

27-year-old Demi has turned her life around since the potentially fatal event.

However, star faced huge backlash last month after she turned her baptism in Isreal into spon-con for her Instagram account.
