Demi Lovato is ‘feeling humbled and joyful’ as she celebrates five years of sobriety

Demi Lovato is “so grateful” as she marks five years of being sober.

The singer and actress shared a snapshot of her 12 Steps AA Companion app to Instagram on Wednesday as she reflected on the past few years.

“So grateful. It’s been quite the journey,” Demi wrote. “So many ups and downs. So many times I wanted to relapse but sat on my hands and begged God to relieve the obsession.

“I’m so proud of myself but I couldn’t have done it without my higher power (God), my family, friends, and everyone else who supported me.”

She added: “Feeling humbled and joyful today. Thank you guys for sticking by my side and believing in me.”

Demi has always been candid about her struggles with addiction and in 2015 she revealed she used to take cocaine several times a day and would smuggle it onto airplanes.

The 24-year-old went to rehab at the age of 18 after battling an eating disorder, self-harm and depression, as well as drug and alcohol abuse, and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder during her treatment.

Nowadays Demi is happier and healthier than ever, working on new music and voicing the character of Smurfette in the upcoming animated movie Smurfs: The Lost Village.
