Court hears home invader intended on ‘killing’ Eminem during break in

A court has heard that a home invader intended on “killing” Eminem during a break in earlier this year.

Authorities allege Matthew David Hughes broke into the rapper’s Detroit home in the early morning hours of April 5, with the preliminary hearing of the case taking place on Wednesday.

Clinton Township police officer Adam Hackstock spoke to the court about the alleged details of the incident.

“When Mr. Mathers asked him why he was there, he was told by Mr. Hughes that he was there to kill him,” the officer said on the stand – in a video obtained by The Detroit Free Press.

The policeman claimed Eminem was awoken from his sleep by a man standing behind him, with the rapper initially thinking man was his nephew.

He claimed that Eminem explained to him that he had escorted the intruder through multiple rooms inside his home to a nearby exit.

He later testified that he witnessed a security guard “wrestling” with Hughes on the ground as he arrived on the scene.

Authorities claimed the intruder gained access to Eminem’s gated residence by climbing through a broken window he smashed with a brick.

He was arrested on first-degree home invasion charges and has remained behind bars since then.

Eminem did not attend Wednesday’s hearing, the The Detroit Free Press reported.

The publication said a judge found probable cause to proceed with a trial, with the defendant set to be arraigned on September 28.
