Casey Affleck addresses sexual harassment claims and backlash over his Oscar win

A lot of people were unhappy about Casey Affleck winning Best Actor at the Oscars.

And now the Manchester by the Sea star has responded to the backlash and spoken out about the sexual harassment allegations against him.

“I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else,” he told the Boston Globe.

“There’s really nothing I can do about it. Other than live my life the way I know I live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time.”

Two women filed lawsuits against Casey in 2010, accusing him of sexual harassment while working on the film I’m Still Here.

The actor is rumoured to have settled the cases for millions of dollars.

When Casey was named Best Actor, presenter Brie Larson – an advocate for victims of sexual abuse – noticeably did not clap for him.

Chrissy Teigen was also seen napping through his acceptance speech, and many Twitter users vented their frustrations online.
