Cardi B fails to trademark ‘Okurrr’ catchphrase

The rapper wanted to use the phrase on merchandise

Cardi B’s application to trademark her catchphrase “Okurrr” has been denied.

The rapper filed the application back in March, in a bid to use the word on merchandise.

However, the US Patent and Trademark Office turned down her request, as they believe the term is already widely used.

They pointed out that the word is commonly used in the drag community, and that other major celebrities are fond of using the phrase – including RuPaul and Khloe Kardashian.

They officially ruled that “okurrr” is a “commonplace term, message, or expression widely used by a variety of sources that merely conveys an ordinary, familiar, well-recognised concept or sentiment”.

The 26-year-old tried to trademark the term, after she used it in Pepsi’s Super Bowl ad this year.

It’s a reality TV special as the girls delve into The Hills reboot, Love Island and all the drama with the Kardashians on this week’s Gosscast.

The Gosscast is sponsored by top Irish fashion website CraveCloset.com.
