Britney Spears’ mother files request to be included in decisions relating to her daughter’s finances

Fans are pushing to end the star's conservatorship - amid concerns for her wellbeing

Britney Spears’ mother Lynne has filed a request to receive special notice on “all matters” relating to the pop star’s trust and finances.

The 65-year-old filed the legal documentation on Monday, in a bid to regain some control of her daughter’s money.

The singer’s trust was set up back in 2004 to protect her multi-million dollar assets.

But in 2008, Britney was put under a personal and financial conservatorship, and was removed as ‘Trustee’ of her SJB Revocable Trust.

Ever since then, Britney’s finances have been managed under a court-approved conservatorship, which prevents her from legally controlling her life and assets.

The conservatorship was previously controlled by her father Jamie, but he stepped down in September 2019 due to ongoing health issues.

Jamie was then replaced by Britney’s longtime care manager Jodi Montgomery.

The news comes after Britney’s mother Lynne requested special notice of all matters relating to her daughter’s conservatorship last year.

Britney’s conservatorship is currently being evaluated, after she accused her father of forcing her to enter a mental health facility last year.

Last May, the singer appeared in court alongside her parents to speak to a judge who oversees her conservatorship, which was established in 2008 after she suffered an alleged breakdown.

A conservatorship is an involuntary status usually reserved for elderly or very ill people who are suffering from dementia or otherwise incapacitated and unable to make decisions for themselves.

Britney’s father Jamie had been in charge of his daughter’s assets since the conservatorship was established, however the agreement doesn’t give him the power to put her into a facility without her consent.

The 38-year-old allegedly demanded more freedom, and told a judge that her father made her check into a Los Angeles unit for 30 days on April 3, after she stopped taking her doctor-prescribed medication.

After hearing Britney and her parents speak in court, the judge ordered an 730 expert evaluation, a process usually used to determine the mental health and competence of a parent in a divorce case.

Britney appeared in court after the hashtag #FreeBritney started trending on Twitter last April, after she was admitted into the mental health facility.

Fans of the pop star got #FreeBritney trending worldwide once again last week, as fans believe she feels “trapped” in her conservatorship.

The singer’s quirky Instagram posts have also caused fans to question her wellbeing in recent weeks.

The widespread concern has even pushed fans to ask Britney to signal whether she’s “in danger” by wearing a particular colour in her Instagram posts.

On the latest episode of Goss Chats, Ali Ryan chats to Ronan Keating about his stat-studded upcoming music special, and working with Robbie Williams on a special new song dedicated to Stephen Gately.

#GossChats is sponsored by top aesthetic clinic Haus of JeJuve, which is now back open for bookings.
