Beyonce honours ‘seriously ill’ Aretha Franklin at Detroit concert

The singer dedicated her show to the icon

Beyonce has honoured Aretha Franklin at her Detroit concert.

The singer is currently on her ‘On The Run’ Part II Tour with husband Jay-Z, and during their stop in Aretha’s hometown of Detroit – she dedicated her performance to the legendary singer.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the moment came early in the show on Monday night at Ford Field.

Beyoncé said, “We love you,” before thanking the 76-year-old for her “beautiful music.”

According to US media, the Respect singer is “seriously ill” and receiving hospice care in Detroit, and she’s surrounded by friends and family.

The news comes after the 76-year-old cancelled planned concerts earlier this year due to health concerns.

Aretha Franklin is best known for songs including Respect and (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman. The singer last performed at an event for Elton John’s AIDS foundation in November 2017.

Since the news broke, celebrities have paid tribute to the 60’s icon on social media.
