Beyoncé and Jay-Z gifted with a key to the city by New Orleans mayor

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have been gifted with a key to the city by New Orleans mayor, LaToya Cantrell.

The couple were surprised with the acknowledgement as they were praised for their charity work by the mayor.

The pair recently gave a teenage fan a $100,000 scholarship and plan to gift a further 10 students with equivalent scholarships while on their ‘On the Road II’ tour.

Mayor Cantrell praised the couple and stated: “I surprised Jay-Z with a Key to the City to highlight both his and @beyonce collective humanitarian work.”

“The Carters recently launched scholarship funds that will benefit cities on their tour. The #CityOfYes embraces you both with love!” she continued.

This is the third scholarship program Beyoncé has created in the past two years, as she has given scholarships worth $25,000 to eight students in eight different colleges since 2017.
